4/7/2011 Tony Grasso tonyg1stcav@yahoo.com
Tony Grasso has posted the "Remembrance" of Ed Leahy - - Ed was like a big brother to me, and when I was a "FNG" he watched out
for me, telling me what to do to stay safe. I remember feeling the fear in combat, but relieved in knowing that guys like Ed had my back.
He has shown the best in courage and brotherhood. There are no medals or awards that can reflect these qualities in those of a real
hero. To his family and friends, I send my condolences. And to Ed I say, "Thanks Bro...You will always be in my heart". Tony
4/5/2011 Paul Gayan gayanp@yahoo.com
I am seeking any information on my uncle Specialist 4 Gary (Garrett) Lee who served in C Company, 2/7 Cav, KIA on 17 Nov 1965.
Although he is listed as being from Chicago, he was drafted there shortly after graduating college from Northern Michigan University in
Michigan’s Upper Peninsula in the city of Marquette. His Fraternity Alpha Phi Omega is having a reunion this summer and have
petitioned the university to allow them to plant a tree and place a plaque in his name on the campus grounds. The Boy Scouts will also be
there to honor him, as he was an Eagle Scout. Also, the local Vietnam Veterans and Patriot Guard Riders will be there along with family
members. It will be held at 11:30 AM, on Saturday, June 25, 2011. Following the dedication of the tree in Gary's memory, we will have a
lunch at St. Michael's Church, near the NMU campus in Marquette, MI. Can any of you help me? The fraternity would love to have
former comrades attend or send letters of support. I do not have any more info on him as his wife moved to California after his death.
Please let me know what you can do. Thank you for all of your help. Even if you did not know of him, I would like to learn more about
the unit, operations and how things operated. I am a former Marine Corps Major and combat veteran, and now work as a Department of
the Army civilian at Detroit Arsenal. Thank you for all your time and assistance. Please contact me at gayanp@yahoo.com

Howdy! Like to hear from any grunts of Charlie Co. involved in a long day on 25 Oct 66 some 30 klicks from PT. I flew ARA support all
afternoon firing about 250 2.75" rockets that afternoon. How did we do? Some rounds were within 30 meters on request fom your 66. You
folks were great and in my thoughts as 11Bravos were right in the middle of the crap way too often. We were "Armed Falcon" call sign,

11/21/13 Ed Thacher fyrbiz@gmail.com
My name is Ed Thacher, my email is fyrbiz@gmail.com. A friend of mine from high school was KIA in Vietnam while serving with the 1st
CAV. We talked in high school about joining the Army on the buddy system, but I decided to take my chances with the draft, ending up
in RVN in 1967. His name was Robert Louis Pitt, but he went by Bob. Per the information on the Virtual Wall he died on 25 Oct 1966
while serving with C-2/7. The province was not reported. I went back to Vietnam this Spring and laid a small memorial to a Caribou
crew that was shot down by friendly fire on an operation I was on. I would like to do the same for Bob, but have no idea where he was.
If there is anyone on your site who remembers him I would love to get in touch to see if I can learn where he died. We grew up in Culver
City, CA. He was a PFC. Thanks for any help you can provide. Thanks Ed
11/12/2013 Peggy Strawser Hoppe peghoppe@hotmail.com
I'm trying to find out about my dad's company while he was in Vietnam. My dad was CW3 Charles (Chuck) Strawser. I know he was
there twice, but I've only been able to find info on his time from 69-70. One website I've found lists him under Headquarters and
Headquarters Company 2nd Battalion (Air Mobile), 7th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). I have all of my dad's slides from when
he was in Vietnam. He has a photo of the sign that says welcome to Firebase Support Base Jamie. I would love to share the photos with
whatever group out there is keeping records because there are several other soldiers in the photos who I don't know but might recognize
themselves. Also if anyone remembers my dad and has photos or stories to tell. His last duty station was at Fort Hood, Texas where he
retired in 1976. Thank you for your time, Peggy Strawser Hoppe
10/04/2013 Adam Christian Smith
My father is Harley Arlen "Sam" Smith. He served with 2/7th Cav, Charlie Company, 1st Cavalry (Airmobile). He was WIA in Ia Drang
Valley on 01 Jan 65. It was also his birthday. From what I understand he was a Combat Scout. He received a Purple Heart but I've had
trouble finding out much more. I've been trying to find action reports for the days 21-December-64 through 5-Jan-1965. Harley A Smith
committed suicide in 1985 after abandoning his family 5 years prior. I hold no ill will and can even understand why he did. I would like to
correspond with anyone who knew my father. Thank you, Adam Christian Smith

I am looking for information about a casualty from your unit that occurred on August 3, 1968. On that date George W. Fischer Jr. was
KIA and according to the listing on the wall it occurred in Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam.
On that date our aircraft was shot up while flying resupply to another unit and we able to fly a short distance to an open hill top about
four clicks west of Fire Support Base Barbara in what was knows as Base Area 101. We were on fire when we approached and ran out of
rpm's several feet above the ground which caused us to spin and crash on the hill. The hill was occupied by a unit at the time and several
members ran to assist us evacuate the helicopter. I believe there was one injured/casualty from that unit caused by our spinning aircraft as
he approached. Our story is written up on our website at: http://stories.a227ahb.org/ShotDown.html
I don't know what unit was on that hilltop at the time but I would like to contact anyone who might have been there. If members of
Charlie Company, 2/7th Cavalry recognize that incident I respectfully ask that you contact me. Thanks in advance for your time and
consideration.
